Who knew that people who exercise at work are more productive than those that don’t?
Not only does exercise help us be happier, more relaxed and less stressed but it can also boost our work performance leading to greater productivity.
A study by Bristol University found that work performance was consistently higher after exercise with direct increases in mental sharpness and time management. Not only that, exercise increased brain function over all by 4%.
So what are we talking here? A lunch-time triathlon? Break room circuit training? Apparently not. Small micro doses of exercise are enough to see significant benefits in productivity.
So for those of you who, like us, spend eight hours a day at a desk, here are just a few ways to get moving. And bosses, listen up, improved productivity could make a big difference to your bottom line so why not help your team get active:
Set a move timer three times a day – when the timer goes off walk the shop floor, corridors, stair cases where ever you can find for ten minutes.
Swap your chair for an exercise ball, yup you heard it here first! Sit on it for 30 minutes to an hour a day and get abs of steel whilst you are at it. Schedule a stand-up meeting, the meeting will be shorter and your participants will be more alert.
Make a rule that you stand up every hour for at least two minutes.
Go for a lunch-time walk at least twice a week. Better still go every day. Don’t forget your trainers!
Walk the last mile of your journey to work just once a week (should take you about 15 minutes).
